Terry Serfling Obituary

Terry Ann Serfling, 73 of Deer River, MN passed away peacefully on January 22nd, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 2nd, 1952, in Bigfork, MN to Emil “Ed” and Elsie Erickson. While our hearts ache at her absence, we choose to celebrate a life lived boldly, fully, and unapologetically.

Raised along the Bowstring River, Terry graduated from Deer River High School in 1970, the same year she married the love of her life, Herbert Serfling, on May 9. In 1971, they welcomed their first son, and Terry began a life defined by deep devotion to her family. She consistently went above and beyond for anyone in need, always placing family as her highest priority. Her greatest joy was found in time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished endlessly. Terry loved the outdoors, especially hiking and time spent at the Winnie Dam, a place that held special meaning to her. At home, she expressed her creativity through arts and crafts, sewing, and crocheting, and no family gathering was complete without a spirited game of cards. A passionate and generous cook, she was especially known for always bringing her beloved caramel bars—an enduring symbol of the love she shared so freely.

She is survived by her children, Todd (Sarah) Serfling and Amy Little; her grandchildren, Regan Serfling, Marcus Little, Mikalah Little, Marissa Little; and her great grandchildren Dustin, Stella, Dakota and Aiden. Her siblings Tom (Ann) Erickson, David (Loree) Erickson, Randy (Lynne) Erickson, Sharon Evans, and Greg (Missy) Erickson, her sisters-in-law, Judy (Toby) Gardner; Paula (Dennis) Jacobs, Marcia (Greg) Brohman and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Herb, her parents Ed and Elsie Erickson, her Parents-in-law Maynerd and Lorraine Serfling, her sister-in -law Debbie, brother-in-law Dean (Annee) Serfling, Kris Perrington, Marilyn (John) Lehman and her niece Jessica Jacobs.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 7th at 1:00 PM at Morris Town Hall in Deer River, MN. Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of her life, to share stories, reflect on cherished memories, and celebrate the love she so generously gave.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to St. Croix Hospice in appreciation of the compassionate care provided by Laura, Alicia and the Grand Rapids team.
